In the past a business network would have to reach out to businesses and vice versa for the network to grow. Today, however, the global reach of the Web is bridging geographical, linguistic, and other demographic gaps between businesses the world over. This being the case, are there new ways to be successful in business networking? In essence, the act has remained the same: all about making the right impressions and keeping to established images to foster valuable business relationships.

Offline Networking—Business Politics at Its Best

Offline business networking, as in the rubbing elbows and meet-and-greet practices, entails much more sophisticated and intricate political pointers. When meeting potential business contacts for the first time, you represent yourself as an entrepreneur and your company as a
business of repute. Everything you do in a dinner gathering of your business network should send a message to everyone that you’re a businessman they would want to collaborate with if ever.

This means that beyond what you say, you should also make the best first impressions using what you do. Facial expressions, your movements, your gestures—all of them should be polished and engendering business etiquette and formality but at the same time a warm cordiality. Indeed, it’s politics in the business level.

And if you think it all ends there, the business networking act is put into action only after making the right impressions on the right people. The task of impressing potential partners and contacts is just the beginning. Next you’ll have to continuously beguile them with
follow ups and business interaction until you’re sure you’ve added a reliable business contact that would open up new business through mutually beneficial collaborations or referrals.

Online Networking—Quick and Easy, but also Risky

Business networking is never purely online—that is to say, at some point in a business relationship businesses would have to come into contact. But as far as online networking goes, there are also best practices to keep in mind.

Making a good impression online relies more on the content of an “About Us” webpage and the features of the company website than the smiles and wit of the company’s front man. Because of this, your online introduction should be able to encapsulate in preferably just a paragraph what your company can offer, and then entice its readers to know more. Of course a bit of Search Engine Optimization and an active online networking profile somewhere would be of immense assistance, too.

Keeping in touch is so much easier when done online. Regular emails or scheduled instant messaging or videoconferencing sessions make the task of keeping up correspondence a breeze. It’s so easy and convenient though that at times we forget that everything we send in our correspondence and even our comments to webpages should always remain professional, and ideally reflecting our company’s business’s etiquette and values.

Then there’s also the risk of simply collaborating online without sufficient meet ups and actual face-to-face arrangements. The amount of fraud and excuses the Internet affords people is a considerable obstacle to purely online business relationships. But after getting over this hurdle, online business networking is a charm.

In addition to square tiles, you can buy border tiles to decorate edges of the tiled area and trims to finish and protect the edges of the tiles. Both are available in a wide variety of finishes and designs. Quadrant tiles are a further option, creating a decorative edge where tiles join with a bath, basin, or work surface. They give a more finished look than regular tiles cut to fit a narrow space. Remember to include trims and border or quadrant tiles when estimating.

Border Tiles

Narrow border tiles provide a decorative band that runs through a design or along its top edge. Apply adhesive directly to thin border tiles. If the tile widths do not match exactly the width of the main tiles, use spacers cut down to T-shapes or apply cross-shaped spaces perpendicular to the wall, and remove before grouting. Apply full tiles first, leaving cuts until last.

Tile Edging and Corner Trims

Regular, straight-edged tiles are straightforward to apply, whereas you may have to adapt your technique for those with irregular edges. Trims are usually plastic and applied along exterior corners. Where the design finishes in the middle of a wall surface they can be used to provide a neat finish and cover unsightly cut edges. Tile edges are often unglazed, and trims may be used protect the edges of tiles.

Business coaching is a growing business, and about 60% to 70% of businesses admit that they have observed an increase in their utilization of business coaching in the past year alone. In an international study, in as little as four years ago, only 4% of small trades used business coaches, and at present more than 20% are using business coaching services to enhance their development stratagem. In the United States, more and more small to medium industries include business coaching as an integral element towards Company growth. Business coaching services are becoming more in demand because they are not very expensive and proven to be extremely successful in increasing business via productive training for their executives and managers.

What can be gained from business coaching? There is escalating proof that business coaching is one of the most effective tools for developing and augmenting business performance. A study involving Fortune 1000 Companies has indicated that utilizing business coaching has garnered positive results such as: -

A significant rise in productivity.

Amplified customer service.

Cost cutbacks. Business coaching is cost-effective
and extremely result-oriented.

Improved bottom line profitability.

Improvement in operational relationships with
superiors and managers.

Progress in team-building and instilling a sense of
camaraderie.

Better rapport with clients and customers, as staff
is able to communicate more diligently and effectively.

In order to save money, many leaders resort to restricting their expenditures on training programs as they cannot see how coaching can produce instant bottom line outcomes. But studies have shown that business coaching can be an integral factor towards rendering phenomenal results. Business coaching can increase productivity, quality, organizational potency, enhance customer service, minimizing clients’ complaints, retain executives, lower operational costs significantly and most important of all, increase bottom line profitability.

Much can be gained from business coaching; small to medium enterprises result in managers who are stronger mentally and able to handle various stressful situations, coaching done via the telephone or Internet will significantly reduce travel costs and can be tailor-made to fit around busy schedules. Many businesses operate with minimal staff, and the work force is continually pressured to perform up to par. Business coaching is able to relay training and advice ‘on the go’, providing employees with the education and support they need. Business coaching can also provide executives with the assistance they need to weigh pivotal decisions in a speedy manner.

Investing in business coaching is an extremely wise move for small to medium organizations. For an affordable amount, leaders experience results in bottom line increment, the work force has renewed vigor, much more work is accomplished because staff is taught on how to work smarter, and a much better balance between personal life and work. Business coaching is available world-wide, and more and more Companies are taking the lead by assimilating such training programs for their managers, executives, and the general workforce.

Increase profit and staff morale simultaneously with effective business coaching; you have nothing to lose and everything to gain.

Server administrators using a software program to divide a single physical server into multiple isolated virtual environments in order to mask or hide server resources is server virtualization. Resources such as processors, operating systems and numbers and identities of individual servers, are all instances of server virtualization in information technology. Occasionally called virtual private servers, these virtual environments can also be known as instances, guests, emulations or containers. There are three ways to approach this: the paravirtual machine model, the virtual machine model, and virtualization of the operating system layer (OS).

A virtual machine is based on the guest/host paradigm. Every individual guest runs on the hardware layers virtual imitation, allowing the guest operating system to be able to be run without any modifications or adaptations. By allowing the administrator to create guests that use a different OS the guest has no concept about the hosts OS as it is unaware that it is not being run on real hardware. It uses a hypervisor to send instructions to the CPU as it requires a real computing source in order to run. This hypervisor is a virtual machine monitor (VMM), and it will validate any guest-issued directions and instruction while it manages any further executed code required for additional privileges. Microsoft Virtual server and VMware are two instances where the virtual machine model is used with server virtualization.

Also based around the guest/host paradigm, the paravirtual machine model (PVM) uses a virtual machine monitor as well. In this instance however, the virtual machine model will actually modify the code of the guests’ operating system. This is called porting, and it supports the virtual machine model so that it can make best use of privileged systems by acting sparingly. Paravirtual machines are also capable of running with multiple operating systems just as virtual machines are. UML and Xen are both instances that use and utilize the paravirtual machine model in server virtualization.

The third way in which server virtualization can be implemented is at the operating systems (OS) level and it works slightly differently to the other two ways in so much as it is not based on the guest/host paradigm. Operating system functionality is exported to the guest when the host runs a single operating system kernel as its core. While all guests must use the same OS as the host, varied distributions of the same system in this case are allowed. By distributing in this way CPU usage overheads are reduced as system calls are eliminated between layers. If there is a security breach or failure in a single partition it will not affect other partitions because a further requirement is that each partition is isolated from each other. Common binaries and libraries can be shared on the same physical machine which enables the OS virtual server to easily host thousands of guests simultaneously.

Efficiently using server resources, improving server reliability and helping with disaster recovery and development are just samples of the extent at which server virtualization can be used.

With more and more people using virtual environments for practically everything, it is becoming more and more important to secure it from virus attacks to security threats. Though virtual environments do not have the same issues as physical environments, it is still vital to keep your data safe. Here are some tips to share with you on how to keep things running smoothly:

Safeguarding your virtual server environment is vital, even though it doesn’t have the same issues as a physical environment. Here are a few tips to keep things running smoothly:

Only install what is necessary on your host machine and keep your Operating System (OS) and other applications current for both virtual and host machines.

You would also need to isolate the virtual machine by installing a good firewall. This will ensure that only secured and approved protocols are deployed. Isolating the virtual machine allows you to identify what information goes where do the necessary troubleshooting if anything happens.

Install and keep your antivirus updated on your virtual machines. Current and updated versions of antivirus will be able to detect any new viruses and keep it away from the risk of viruses and worms that an easily infiltrate virtual spaces.

Apart from a good antivirus, you would also use a strong encryption code between the host and virtual machines for the simple reason of avoiding it from being attacked or hacked by third party programs. It also decreases the risk of getting a virus.

If you want to surf the internet, never do it using the host computer. This is because spyware and malware can easily infiltrate through the host computer and spread to the virtual machines, which will make troubleshooting and getting rid of these viruses a huge task.

Accounts in your host machine should be properly secured to prevent and unauthorized access or hacking.

Just like installing what is necessary, your use of the host machine should only be done when you need it. If you are not utilizing the virtual machine, shut it down.

Look out for the needs of network sharing or connections with other sources. If your virtual machine has no need to connect with other networks, then just isolate it. You can use a separate network card on a different network range if you need to connect.

Always monitor the event log and security events on both the host machine and on the virtual machine. These logs should always be stored in your log vault for security and for auditing purposes at a later date.

When using any hardware, do a check to see if that hardware is compatible with your version of the virtual machine and is designed for the specific use of a virtual machine.

Another security aspect to consider is the strict management of remote access to your virtual machines especially to the host machine as this can minimize any attach and exposure to viruses.

Also, avoid sharing IP addresses as this will attract a host of vulnerabilities that you do not want.

Outlook is a great tool that allows you to send emails with ease. With the increase use Outlook, more and more apps and programs are designed to help you work your way through the various different folders and the many email messages you get on a daily basis. Here are some tips to help you increase the use of your Outlook for a more successful work flow.

Anagram

Anagram is artificial intelligence-based program that allows you to capture and convert information included into your email, web page or any other text-based source and puts it into the right fields either in a Contact form, or a Calendar appointment. Just select the relevant portion of the text that you want to capture and convert from the source document say for example your set of personal contact information at the bottom of an email. With the item highlighted, press the F12 hot key and the program automatically determines whether the information should go under Contact or Appointment. It then transfers this information into its relevant fields. Before saving, you can check the items and make the necessary amendments. Anagram can be purchased in either personal or professional versions depending on your needs and the starting price tag is at $34.95.

SimplyFile

This is another productivity enhancing program for Microsoft Outlook. SimplyFile is an
intelligent filing assistant specifically designed for optimum use with Microsoft Outlook as it lets you file thousands of outlook email messages in the right folders with just one click of a mouse. This program has a prediction technology that learns about your filing scheme and helps you file messages in the appropriate folder. With this program, you do not need to sort your emails individually. Just do a few clicks on the program to set a command and it automatically sorts emails messages to its designated folders.

MessageSave

MessageSave is another must try software for Microsoft Outlook. This program works by archiving Outlook Messages using backup, archive, and process, share and save to sort and save Outlook email messages as individual files. MessageSave is a great solution for email data retention, backup, archiving, sharing, avoiding mailbox bloat.

EZDetach

EzDetach helps you extract, remove, save attachments – whether manually or automatically, from one or multiple messages. This program enables you to save time, and avoid mailbox overload, especially if you have been away for a holiday and have not logged on to your email account to check emails.

FBLook
FBLook is one of the latest programs that integrate Microsoft Outlook with Facebook, allowing you to update your status on Facebook, and see other items such as your friend’s statuses as well as see the number of new requests from within Outlook.

Twinbox

With this program, you can manage, archive and search your Twitter tweets the same way you would do with Outlook. Twinbox is the tool that integrates Outlook with Twitter so communication between these two networks can be done easily and fast.

Each of these programs has its own advantage and you can pick and choose the program of your choice depending on what you need to streamline your workflow in Outlook, what kind of sites that you most often check and get updated with and what online sites can increase and maximize the productivity of using Outlook.

Disk partitioning is the process of separating one hard drive into several independent volumes. This can be done using the Disk Management tool included into Windows Vista and Windows 7 which enables you to partition a disk without involving third party software.

1) It saves you a lot of computer related headaches

Most PCs come with a single partition hard drive and it shows up as a C Drive on your computer. Keeping all your data from files to applications and your operating system into one drive is risky because should anything happen to your partition index file, your computer will not be able to reboot from that drive. Rebooting from external drives is possible but the downside would be you would not be able to access other data stored in that single partition

2) It Enables you to treat your drives as separate entities

Disk partitioning enables you to keep your system and the apps in different drives so that it will be easier to back up your data and you will be less likely to lose any data stored in an accident such as when reformatting or reinstalling Windows. You can save different types of data in different drives such as for media files , document files, drivers as well as programs.

3) It enables you to set up an emergency partition

With disk partitioning, you do not need and emergency boot disc if your Windows suddenly crashes. If you have created a bootable partition that is large enough to contain a stripped-down OS and a handful of diagnostic tools, you can easily use it to rescue your data and salvage your computer. Some computer manufacturers have created a supply built-in emergency partition in latest versions of their PC such as Lenovo and Acer. If your computer does not have an emergency partition, you can easily create one.

4) It enables you to try out different operating systems

Disk partitioning allows you to try different operating systems other than your own such as Linux. The general rule is that no two operating systems can co-exist in the same volume without overriding so you won’t be able to dual-boot between Linux or Windows 7 if you’re on a single-volume system.

You can partition your hard drive on your own. Some operating systems such as Windows XP will likely need a more powerful partitioning software than the installed Microsoft’s Disk Management tool. Other software to try is the EaseUs Partition Master.

Before partitioning, make sure that all your data is backed up. During the partitioning process, no data will be deleted by backing up ensure that you have all your important data should anything go wrong with the partitioning process.

With the disk management tool, all you need to do is follow the instructions given to partition your disk. The Disk Management tool shows you the existing drives on your system and other partitions; if there are any as well as how much space you have left.

The Disk management tool allows you to choose the amount of space you want to shrink. This depends on how you want to use that partition.

In social media marketing, there are so many channels and tactics as well as ways to measure success and it can seem pretty intimidating for those new to social media. The simple rule is to get yourself connected to the channels that your targeted audience use as well as the goals that you want to achieve. Here are a few tips to help you get your head around:

1) It isn’t instant, but it’s much faster than traditional media

Social media marketing takes a lot more time and energy in establishing contact and it isn’t just simply taking your clients out for dinner. But the effort is worthwhile as you can establish a constant contact with them. With online marketing, you need patience, technical knowledge, speed and authenticity and not to mention creativity to keep your audience interested.

2) Choose your channels last

Just because your competition has a Twitter account, doesn’t mean you need to have one too. As an organization, the first thing you should think about is where your targeted audience goes online, what their objectives of using the said channel and what strategies you should apply to get their attention. When you have all these planned out, then pick your channels to suit with your online marketing budget. It saves time, effort as well as money.

3) Create Newsworthy items

In social media marketing, your main objective it to get followers to spread your stories as well as how to deliver value information to them. In the process of doing so, you would also have to earn their respect and trust in divulging information that you can use to expand your marketing objectives online. When you do this, any newsworthy story will spread fast without you asking them to.

4) Become the point of contact and the regulator

When you have established your online channels, become the regulator by looking out for comments posted on your sites, suggestions from consumers and any other industry related news that you can get your hands on. Once you have this, point your followers to this great stuff and reply or comment back on their comments and suggestions. This will keep you in tune with them, and along the way gain their trust. If you give credible information, your existing followers will come back for more and in the same time, you will create new followers.

5) Go Mobile

Social web marketing is everywhere-from everyone’s palms to their pockets, desktops and laptops. In 2009 alone, it has been reported that at least 4.8 billion people have mobile handsets with internet connectivity. People are more mobile nowadays then they were a few years back. Going mobile is a great way to integrate your social media marketing into a mobile online marketing strategy.

While online marketing is effective, there are a few rules that you should abide to when posting links, comments and information on your online channels. Always add honest and value information and avoid overload of information that can get you into hot soup. Also, remember to respect copyright and fair use laws as well as the laws that are regulating the channels. Be professional and responsible for the information that you post and protect the confidential information of your company. In anything that you post, always include a disclaimer and be respectful to the people you communicate and respond to.

With each passing year, hard drive capacities keep increasing and people do not practice scrimping on storage like they did before. Though, it’s still a good idea to give your drive a quick sweep from time to time to reduce clutter and avoid filling it up prematurely which makes the computer process slower over time. Here are a few fast steps to help you eliminate junk and reclaim your lost space:

Empty Your Recycling Bin

This is the first step in cleaning out junk from your hardware. Just right-click on the Recycle Bin and choose ‘Empty Recycle Bin’ to clear out all those deleted folders and files, images, sound clips and so on.

Use a Disk Cleanup tool

Windows has its own Disk Cleanup tool which you can find by clicking on Start> All Programs> Accessories> System Tools> Disk Cleanup. Select the drive that you want to clean, usually the C Drive and let the tool clean your disk. After the cleaning, the tool should tell you how much space you can free up by deleting different kinds of files, including cached Web pages, temporary application files, reports from Windows Error Reporting, and so on. You can check and uncheck items that you do not want to be cleared. If you want more space to be cleared, that you have to clean even more.

Disk Cleanup doesn’t cover all of your PC’s caches, either–especially if you’re using a browser other than Internet Explorer. There are other browsers that can help you clear unwanted cookies:

Firefox: Use Tools> Advanced> Network. Click the Clear Now button to clear the cache, and adjust the amount of space that the cache uses down to what you can spare.

Safari: Enable the menu bar by clicking the gear in the upper-right corner and choose Show Menu Bar. Now choose Edit, Empty Cache.

Google Chrome: Look for the wrench icon in the upper-right corner and click on it. Then go to Options, Personal Stuff, Clear Browsing Data. Here you can check what kinds of data to delete; check ‘Empty the Cache’ and select ‘Everything’ from the displayed drop-down menu.

Manage Your Media

No matter how many disks you have or how much you try to clean your PC, there’s still not enough space in your computer if you do not delete anything significant. Though that you can maximize capacity by managing your media:

Keep Archives: Keep archives of your movies, music and pictures. Instead of storing them in your computer or in CDs, utilize other storage means such as Google’s Picasa Web Album. Also, you can use this app called Fotobounce that enables you to upload and download albums with ease. The same goes for music and video files. If you already have them in Youtube or posted on Facebook, delete these files and use Fotobounce to re-download them again.

If you are a fan of series, you can either save these files into CDs and label them so you do not have to get rid of your precious collection. If you have too many CDs, it really won’t hurt to get rid of old episodes of the Bold and the Beautiful or Ally MacBeal.

If your business is dependant heavily on conventional, electronic and new media, then your company website needs to project the image of a press-friendly website. In other words, make finding your press releases and other information easily accessible for the press. By making your website press friendly, we’re talking about a website that goes beyond just being equipped with the specific browser or version, specific screen size or resolution, or excessive use of JavaScript or Flash for basic navigation and information-finding.

Getting your website at the top of a search engine list isn’t hard, but keeping it there spells more work. The same is said for getting your website press ready. Here’s a check list that can help you get the quick fixing it needs to make it easier for the press to contact you:

1) Set your sites

At the least, your website should be a regular website with the basic applications and design as well as information to keep it normal. Basic websites enable your company to be easily picked up by Google spiders. Being findable is the first thing on your list. Your clientele should at least be able to find you by typing in your company name. Make sure that your company is live on the internet and has the same URL as advertised.

2) Start with the basic facts

Each and every website is designed with the primary goal or focus of the company. For companies selling a product or service, the website is product oriented and if it’s a corporate website, then corporate information, investor information and so on is made the main focus of the site. No matter what the first information is displayed, the ‘About Us’ page is crucial to a website. This page should include:

a) Your company’s full name as you’d want it to appear in a news article, including any Inc., Corp, LLC, e.g., “Your Company, Inc.”.

b) What your company is all about all said in a few short sentences. Sentences like ‘MyCompany makes embedded-technology collars, leashes and other accessories like its award-winning WiFi/USB Collar for domestic pets and other animals,” from which a journalist could extract, “MyCompany, a maker of animal techno-accessories.”

c) Also include where your company is headquartered in and include other helpful facts that are newsworthy such as contact information, time zone etc’.

3) Identify who the press should contact

Establish a point of contact for your media group. Most companies would get their Media or Public Relations department to be the point of contact to answer press queries, send out press releases and maintain media relations. The marketing communications department is also responsible for the media so make sure that whoever that is responsible to the media, sends out the right information inline with the company’s agenda. Make sure that the contact email that you use is simple and general such as info@mycompany.com or media@mycompany.com.

4) Include Links to your Press Releases

Usually, the media contact information should be included into a designation page for the media just as how you would have a designated section for ‘Investor Relations’ or ‘Customer Service’ and ‘About Us’. The ‘Contact Us’ page of you website should list all the contact information for your entire site’s potential visitors and it should also be linked to its designated page. In the ‘Media Relations’ section, include in press releases and are easily clickable and readable.
