TOP 10 IT Companies of 2010
Information technology or better known by its abbreviation IT is one of the highly lucrative and rapidly expanding business in the 21st century. With many IT companies cropping up in the world today, let’s take a look at the top 10 IT companies in 2010 in the world. These IT companies are ranked by their annual revenues from software to hardware manufacturing as well as other IT services.
The top position goes to HP raking in $116 billion in 2009. With its acquisition of Compaq, HP has became the top hardware vendor, thus retaining its spot as the largest IT company in the world ever since. HP is not new to the top ranking list as it has been ranked as one of the 10 largest companies for many years and the company currently ranks 7th in the Software Top 100.
Coming in second is Samsung, raking in $76 billion in 2009 alone. Samsung is not only known for its IT revenues but also it communication devices especially cell phones. IBM comes in 3rd in a very close margin of $75 billion netted in 2009. Most of IBM’s revenue is generated through rendering of services. IBM is alo no stranger to high ranks since it is also the second largest software company and a top twenty hardware company.
Microsoft suffered slightly in the sluggish economy last year coming in fourth place with the introduction of its newer versions of Windows XP and Windows Vista. Though in fourth place, Microsoft is the most profitable company in the list as it creates revenue by biting into a large piece of the software industry producing operating software that is used in practically every PC, laptop and desktop in the world. Microsoft’s revenue for 2009 was $62 billion.
Right after that comes Nokia with a close margin of $59 billion made in 2009 where its revenue was made largely from its ever popular and user friendly list of cell phones, communication services and communication application. Dell and Fujitsu come in at $54 billion and $51 billion respectively through microprocessors and electronic items. The last 3 companies ranked in the top 10 list are Foxconn, Toshiba and Cisco.
IT is a lucrative global industry with rapid changes. From the list, 5 of these companies are located in the US, 4 from Asia and 1 from Europe. Most of the IT and computer products are manufactured in Asia although headquarters are in America whereas some are headquartered in Asia and products hardware parts for other companies such as Apple and Motorola.
With most of these companies retaining their position in the top 10 list, more and more younger competitors are breaking into the market and becoming a favorite especially brands such as Huawei and HTC. Companies are also becoming for sustainable in a move to create more ‘green’ servers and taking measures to reduce IT waste that has been plaguing the IT industry. Cisco has been the leading company in terms of ‘green’ sustainability efforts in its objective to stop climate change.
